MAIL NAME
~~~~~~~~~
Your mail name is the name that will appear at the
bottom of any correspondence as a kind of signature.
e.g. 73 de Dave
(followed by some details about your station).
It is also used during automatic logins to initiate an
FTP session (File Transfer Protocol) where your
callsign will be used as the login name, and your name
as the password. Yes, I know it all sounds back to
front! But when you think about it, your callsign is
what you are known by in the Amateur world. TCP/IP
follows that particular line of reasoning too.
If you are associated with a HUB station (a local 24
hour station that acts in a similar manner to a
telephone exchange for TCP/IP traffic), you may also
be using POP (Post Office Protocol) which is one of
the methods available for collecting mail destined for
your station.
By the way, if you ever see "ACCESS DENIED" errors on
your trace screen when trying to POP mail from a HUB
station, it is probably because your name isn't
matching the name in the HUB setup exactly. e.g. You
are logging in as g9zzz don, and the HUB station has
g9zzz Don in the setup table. don is not the same as
Don.
This program sets automatic logins to use lower case
letters (i.e. small letters) always. Make a mental
note of that just in case you run into a problem
later.
